My desktop is in need of an upgrade or a complete rebuild. The age is starting to show and it’s time to kick the power up a few dozen notches. Let’s look at what I’m working with now, why I need to upgrade, and what I’m considering.

So I got one of those “don’t accept Anwar Jitou’s friendship request” messages on Facebook. Apparently, he’s some kind of magical hacker who can do impossible things. Here is the chain letter message: “Please tell all the contacts in your Messenger list, not to accept Anwar Jitou’s friendship request. He is a hacker and has the system connected to your Facebook account. If one of your contacts accepts it, you will also be hacked, so make sure that all your friends know it.
Do you see that picture above? That’s Denise Milani. She’s a very well-known model from the Czech Republic. That picture of her and her dog is pretty adorable. What isn’t adorable is the high number of people who believe she is going to randomly add them as a Facebook friend.
A few days ago I used the Auslogics Duplicate File Finder application to search for and remove several thousand duplicate photo files. It found over 26,000 duplicate photos to remove. I told it to send the files to the Recycle Bin and let it do its thing. The program shot off like a rocket, heading into the hundreds very quickly. As it near the 1000 file mark and went beyond, I noticed things slowed down.
